Fall 2023 | Part 2: Holiday spirit

Welcome to Glasstronomy Studios’ adult art glass workshop program. This calendar details the workshops and courses offered during November and December 2023 for adults wanted to expand their glass skills.

Amid the busyness of the season take some time for yourself. Our project-based learning program teaches best practices and samples many techniques. Whether adding to your festive décor or gifting to others, these projects are sure to get you in the mood for the holidays!

How to register

To register, we currently accept payment in person (cash, Debit, MasterCard and Visa), by email (e-transfer), or by phone (MasterCard and Visa). Please note that HST will be added to the listed fee at time of payment.

Cancellation policy: A Studio credit will be issued for cancellations up to 48 hours before start date. We regret that Studio credits will not be issued under the 48-hour threshold.

Studio credits can be applied to a future purchase of a workshop or course.

Courses

  • Course | B209 | Beginner stained glass: Leaded panel (November 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2023)

    Welcome to traditional stained glass! Learn how to create a stained glass panel in the traditional lead came technique. Whether you are an absolute beginner or adding to your knowledge of copper foil construction, this four-week course will cover how to safely break and shape sheet glass, and lead and glaze an 8-inch by 10-inch stained glass panel.

    All materials and tool use included.

    When: Thursdays, November 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2023, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $295 + HST (includes all materials and tool usage)



  • Course | G283 | Beginner/Intermediate stained and fused glass: Holiday pet peep (November 30, December 7, and 14, 2023)

    If you’ve begun your stained glass experience and are ready to enhance it with fused glass or you simply find these pet cuties too irresistible to pass up, then this multi-disciplinary course is for you! Participants will combine fused glass layering and painting with traditional copper foil technique to create a pet-inspired window corner in time for holiday decorating or gifting.

    All materials and project firing included.

    Want a custom pattern made of your favourite fur baby? We can do that too! (optional)

    Glass cutting experience required.

    When: Thursdays, November 30, December 7, and 14, 2023, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $295 + HST (includes all materials and project firing) + $40 personalized pattern (optional)

Workshops

  • Workshop | I441 | Intermediate glass fusing: Big bad bowl (November 4, 2023)

    Both serviceable and stunning, these big bad beauties boast geometric patterns, bold form, and custom colour combinations! Participants will spend the day mastering uniform shape cutting with The Morton System, large circle cutting with a Toyo Supercutter, and multi-stage kiln firing to create large vessels.

    4 sq. ft. 96 COE clear base glass included.
    Project glass and firings are à la carte.

    When: Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm (formerly October 14, 2023)
    Fee: $175 + HST (includes 4 sq. ft. 96 COE clear base glass) + à la carte glass and firings


  • Workshop | G284 | Fusing fun: Wall mounted mirror and coat hook (November 11, 2023)

    Inspired by the season’s cozy accessories, this fused and functional mirror and coat hook is sure to make the kiddos in your world feel extra special! Play with 96 COE rods, stringers, powder, and Liquid Stringer Medium to create a “glass wool” cap and mittens. Add a monogramed pompom and coats will see the floor no more! Once fired, pieces will be mounted on a custom metal frame with two coat hooks.

    All materials, frame, mirror, and project firings included.

    Beginners are welcome.

    When: Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm

  • Workshop | A436 | Sculptural fusing: Wall mounted poinsettia trio (November 18, 2023)

    Creating sculpture in the kiln is one of our favourite things to do in the Studio. During this one-day workshop, participants will learn how to use kiln safe forms and durafibre to create one-of-a-kind slumping molds as well as how to design sculptural glass layers that can be stacked, and wall mounted on metal stand-offs. Using 96 COE glass and accessories, participants will create three multi-layered poinsettias roughly 12-inch in diameter. Tack-slump firing will also be covered. Can anyone say, “seasonal series”?

    All materials, hardware, and project firing included.

    When: Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $395 + HST (includes all materials, hardware, and project firing)


  • Workshop | I442 | Stained glass fun: Electroplated angels (November 25, 2023)

    Add peace and joy to the holiday season. In time for tree trimming and holiday gifting, these stained glass angels with their plated metal surrounds, jewelled faces, and iridescent wings, will bring sparkle and shine to the festivities. Participants will learn how to safely handle and build three-dimensional angels using hobby came and stained glass. Participants will make three angels that once completed will be nickel plated.

    All project materials included.

    Electroplating fee to be paid to the instructor at the end of the workshop.

    When: Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $135 + HST (includes all project materials) + $60 electroplating fee paid to instructor on the day of the workshop

  • Workshop | G285 | Hot glass fun: Combed holiday ornaments (December 2, 2023)

    Do you want to play with hot molten glass? Of course, you do! Learn, one on one, how to create fibre casting molds that once filled with 96 COE coloured glass will be heated in the mini kilns. When molten, participants will learn how to safely comb and stir their red-hot creations into unique swirls and patterns. Once cooled, pieces will be annealed and finished ready for hanging or gift giving.

    Each participant will make three ornaments.

    All materials and project firings included.

    When: Saturday, December 2, 2023, reserve a time slot (1-½-hour in duration)
    Time slots: 10:30 am, 11 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2 pm, 2:30 pm, 3 pm
    Fee: $150 + HST (includes all materials and project firings)
