Welcome to Glasstronomy Studios’ adult art glass workshop program. This calendar details workshops and courses offered from April to June 2024.

This season is inspired by our observation of the natural world. Whether you are beginning your creative art glass journey or want to apply those learned skills, our project-based learning program teaches best practices and techniques that will give you a taste of the possibilities. Explore the medium in a fun and friendly environment while creating something uniquely yours. Nurture your glass skills and let your creativity flourish!

How to register

To register, we currently accept payment in person (cash, Debit, MasterCard and Visa), by email (e-transfer), or by phone (MasterCard and Visa). Please note that HST will be added to the listed fee at time of payment.

Cancellation policy: A Studio credit will be issued for cancellations up to 48 hours before start date. We regret that Studio credits will not be issued under the 48-hour threshold.

Studio credits can be applied to a future purchase of a workshop or course.

Courses

  • Course | I444 | Stained glass: Mosaic mirror with fused glass features (April 11, 18, and 25, 2024)

    With a vibrant history dating back to ancient times, mosaic art continues to evolve as a modern and innovative art form. During this three-week course, participants will explore adding fused glass elements to their traditionally applied stained glass backgrounds. Using 96 COE glass and accessories, and Glassline paint, participants will add dimension, texture, and focal interest to their 12-inch x 16-inch custom-designed mosaic mirror.

    Beginner fusers are welcome.
    Glass cutting experience required.
    All project materials and firing included.

    When: Thursdays, April 11, 18, and 25, 2024, from 7 to 10 pm + one open studio session for grouting
    Fee: $335 + HST (includes all project materials and firing)





  • Course | B209 | Beginner stained glass: Leaded panel (May 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2024)

    Welcome to stained glass! Bright and engaging, stained glass is a wonderful medium to inspire creativity and relaxation. This four-week course includes hands on instruction in traditional lead came stained glass in our spacious and fully equipped studio. Participants will learn how to safely handle, cut, and break sheet glass, and lead and glaze an 8-inch x 10-inch stained glass panel. There are several patterns to choose from.

    All materials, pattern, and tool usage included.

    When: Thursdays, May 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2024, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $295 + HST (includes all materials, pattern, and tool usage)



  • Course (FULL) | I448 | Sculptural fusing: Table turtle (June 6 and 13, 2024)

    Who doesn’t love turtles? Especially ones with a shiny shell that look like they could move any moment! Finish off our sculptural fusing season with this 8-inch x 6-inch x 3-inch, three-dimensional cast and draped dichroic turtle in time to enjoy all summer long. During this two-session course, participants will learn about loose fibre damming, glass casting, and firing thick.

    Beginner fusers are welcome.
    Glass cutting experience required.
    All project materials and firings included.

    When: Thursdays, June 6 and 13, 2024, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $250 + HST (includes all project materials and firings)

Workshops

  • Workshop | I361 | Stained glass: Patio stone (April 13 and 20, 2024)

    Celebrate the coming of summer at the Studio by making a 16-inch hexagonal stained glass patio stone. These bold patterns are a beautiful way to add colour and expression to your garden path or flowerbed. They can also become a patio table when added to a wrought iron table stand (stands not included). Participants will learn how to prepare a pattern and plastic mold for glass and concrete. Once completed participants will return to pour the concrete. There are several patterns to choose from.

    Scrap glass and non-glass project materials, pattern, and mold rental included. Main design glass not included.

    When: Saturdays, April 13 AND 20, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $295 + HST (includes scrap glass, non-glass project materials, pattern, and mold rental) + opaque stained glass



  • Workshop | I445 | Sculptural fusing: Dragon mountain (April 27, 2024)

    Welcome the year of the Dragon with this inspired fused glass sculpture. Showcasing vibrant dichroic glass and fused sculptural lamination, this 2-½-inch x 2-½-inch x 6-inch sculpture will glow on its LED stand. Share in the positive energy of the dragon while enjoying its dramatic display of fusing techniques.

    All project materials, firings, and LED light stand included.

    When: Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $225 + HST (includes all project materials, firings, and LED light stand)



  • Workshop | B227 | Beginner glass fusing: Funky wall clock (April 28, 2024)

    Welcome to the world of glass fusing in our fully equipped Studio. With professional instruction, participants will learn about glass compatibility, and glass cutting and shaping while producing a one-of-kind mosaic inspired funky wall clock.

    All materials and project firing included.

    When: Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm (rescheduled from published date of Saturday, April 27, 2024)
    Fee: $195 + HST (includes all project materials and firing)


  • Workshop (FULL) | G292 | Fusing technique: Glass painting with guest artist Udiya Swamy (May 4, 2024)

    Glasstronomy Studios is excited to welcome back guest artist Udiya Swamy. Traditionally trained in drawing and painting, Udiya has worked with glass for over 25 years. Since working on projects like the restoration of Ottawa’s Parliament buildings and Toronto’s Castle Loma and St. Michael’s Cathedral, he now shares his extensive knowledge and experience through education. During this workshop, Udiya will guide participants through his method of vitreous glass painting. Participants will learn how to compose and execute several traditionally painted and fired renderings. Participants will receive a beginner glass painting kit that includes brushes, Reusche tracing black, and gum arabic.

    Beginners are welcome.
    Project glass and firings also included.
    Participants will need to bring an LED light pad.

  • Workshop | G293 | Stained glass technique: Overlay and inked bitsy boxes

    These little treasure boxes are loaded with technique! Learn three-dimensional construction, tube hinging, copper overlay, and alcohol ink application, and make perfect little gifts. Participants will make two colourful and functional 2-inch x 2-inch boxes with hinged lids during this one-day workshop.

    Beginners are welcome.
    All project materials included.

    When: Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $195 + HST (includes all project materials)


  • Workshop | A437 | Advanced glass casting: Daisy garden stake (May 25 and May 30, 2024)

    Is this blown glass? No, but it is this season’s showstopper! Learn how to cast and migrate glass to mimic the effects of hot glass during this 1-½ session workshop. Using 96 COE cathedral colours, duraboard, durafibre, and custom-made molds, participants will create a 12-inch diameter glass flooded daisy that once complete will be adhered to a custom-made metal armature. Mold making, glass flowing, and cold working will also be covered.

    No beginners please.
    All project materials, firings, and metal armature included.

    When: Saturday, May 25, from 10 am to 4 pm AND Thursday May 30, 2024, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $425 + HST (include all project materials, firings, and metal armature)


  • Workshop | I447 | Stained glass technique: Electroplated floral lights with tiny critters (June 1, 2024)

    In time for summer hosting, these playful and shiny floral tea-light holders with their “flying accent” will add ambiance to any setting. Using hobby came, wire, and glass, participants will build up to three 8-inch x 8-inch x 4-inch pieces that can be electroplated to a durable silver finish. Three-dimensional lead construction and lead critter making will also be covered.

    Glass cutting experience required.
    All project materials included. Electroplating fee to be paid to instructor at the start of the workshop.

    When: Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $175 + HST (includes all project materials) + electroplating fee ($30/tea-light holder)



  • Workshop | I446 | Sculptural fusing: Waterlily wall flowers (June 8 and 15, 2024)

    As promised, the next edition of the wall flower series! Welcome the summer season with these advanced fused glass sculptures, for your wall, table or perhaps your backyard pond. Using 96 COE glass and accessories, durafibre, needle cloth, and our fusing guru’s sculptural fusing knowledge and experience, participants will create and keep all the molds required for three multi-layered and sculpted waterlilies on lily pads, including three bowl-shaped molds of varying sizes. Multi-directional and multi-task firings will also be covered. Pieces can be drilled and applied to wall stand-offs or left as is and enjoyed on a horizontal surface.

    Stand-offs are optional.

    When: Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm, AND Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 1 to 4 pm
    Fee: $495 + HST (includes all project materials and firings) + $15 stand-off set (optional)
