M2023-10 | Cook off: Holiday ornament edition
Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 2 to 4 pm
RSVP members@glasstronomystudios.ca by Wednesday, November 15. Indicate if you want to compete or if you want to cheer!
Join us for a quick competition. Participants will design an original * 3-inch holiday ornament and execute it within 1-1/2 hours. The ornaments will then be tack fired, displayed, and presented to social media for the popular vote. We will feature a pattern for the winning ornament and a prize package will be presented to its creator during our holiday social. You are welcome to research your design ahead of the event. Also, consider how your ornament will be hung.
* Proprietary characters, images, and designs are prohibited. Beware of Etsy, Instagram, and Pinterest too!
Bonus points:
10 bonus points for wearing holiday attire
10 bonus points for wearing festive head gear
If you are not ready to “cook” glass, how about cookies and squares? We are also hosting a holiday baking exchange.
Holiday baking exchange – For folks interested in sharing their baking or no bake faves, we are offering a chance to exchange. Whether it’s your classic shortbread, gran’s lemon squares, Uncle Bob’s holiday rum balls, or your daughter’s favourite no bake bliss bites, you are invited to exchange on the day. RSVP members@glasstronomystudios.ca with details of your baked item by November 8, 2023, so that others can know how many batches to make and to minimize duplication.
Criteria:
- All baking should be homemade (but not necessarily by you!).
- Bring at least 2 dozen (most standard recipes).
- Unlike the standard swap, we ask that you prepackage your offerings into zipped sandwich/snack bags for freshness/freezing. We recommend ½ dozen (6) per bag. You’ll be very popular if you have some extras for sampling too!
- Display a copy of the recipe so that folks can see the ingredients (highlight alcohol, dairy, eggs, nuts, wheat gluten).
- Arrange cookies in a basket or platter (be creative!).
- Bring a large container to carry away your treats.
If you bring, you can take!
