Cover up, Buttercup! | Creative challenge

You know the mantra: Wear a non-medical face mask/covering, wash your hands frequently, and maintain two metres physical distancing where possible. We are not going to add to the noise, except to say, "Cover up, Buttercup!"

Creative challenge

Our latest creative challenge is for all ages and ability. We are asking you to create a face mask based on the template we have provided. The masks are not meant to be worn. When the pieces are wall-mounted, they interlock like bricks, which is kind of a metaphor for strength in numbers.

Requirements

Not many. Really.

1. Use the template
2. Use any media (e.g., ceramic, fibre, glass, metal, paper, wood)
3. Be original
4. Be willing to share it

Not an artist? That's subjective. You can doodle in the blank template or colour in one of the drawings we created for anyone who wants to colour inside or outside the lines. Alternatively, you can use words or numbers in a visual/tactile way.

Keep it family-friendly. While art can be provocative, know your audience. This is not a platform for homophobia, pornography, racism, or xenophobia.

Submission

You can submit your piece in one of three ways:

1. Post photo of mask to social media using #coverupbuttercupcanada and tag us (Facebook @Glasstronomy Studios; Instagram @glasstronomystudios; Twitter @glasstronomix)
2. Email a high resolution jpeg photo of mask to events@glasstronomystudios.ca and we will post it to our channels
3. Drop it off at the Studio where we will add it to the others on display. To allow us to properly wall mount your piece, kindly create/drill holes (two or four) and add tethers where you would normally tie the mask to your face.

Note: You can submit as many pieces as you want.

Deadline: We will be accepting and sharing submissions until March 31, 2021.

Are you a professional creative?

You are welcome to share coordinates where folks can check out/purchase your work.

Cost

Nothing. Really.

However, if you want to, support one of the many not for profits and regional organizations through CanadaHelps.org.

Thanks for playing!
