Come on over!

Fit some time in between running errands and gardening this Saturday and come out to Glasstronomy Studios' popup Spotlight | Makers' market. Check out some great arts and crafts and pick up a piece or two—whether a gift for that summer wedding or to brighten up your seasonal décor, these decorative and/or functional pieces will be sure to make a statement.

Fundraising initiative | Yellow Brick House

Help improve the lives of women and children — Volunteers will be selling fused glass jewellery they made to support Yellow Brick House. All proceeds from the cash sale of the jewellery will be donated to this organization.

Squared off challenge

All members are invited to participate in the Squared off exhibit that will be displayed during the Makers’ market. Submit a 6-inch square piece in your preferred glass medium to be wall mounted. The theme for the Squared off display is LANDSCAPE. Submissions are due on or before Tuesday, June 11, 2019. When you submit your piece, please let us know if it is for sale and for how much, and if you choose to donate the proceeds to Yellow Brick House.

Silent auction | The Glassed Over Project

The Glassed Over Project was recently on show at Markham Museum. The installation was created by the Studio and member and student volunteers. The installation, a series of reclaimed window frames with glass panels in different styles and mediums, paid tribute to women of merit. The Studio created the exhibit out of pocket. To offset Studio costs, the collection will be sold via silent auction at the Makers' market. A portion of its sale will be donated to the Yellow Brick House. Click here to view the catalogue which contains information about the collection, the bidding process, and the minimum value for each panel. If you saw the exhibit in person and are interested in acquiring a panel, be sure to reach out to us ahead of the Makers' market. If you are unable to attend in person, we are offering telephone bidding (1-855.415.9777 or 905.415.9777). Click here to download the Bidder registration form. Bidding ends at 2 pm.

Meet your local MP (Markham—Thornhill)

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion, will be in Studio at noon to explore the space and see the vendors. Do you have a question on federal government policy? Here's a chance to connect with Minister Ng and find out more about the government's agenda, initiatives, and programming.

How you can participate

Come out and support the artists and crafts people. It's a great chance to connect with local creative people and purchase original art and support a local not-for-profit organization.

Member volunteers needed

If you have an hour to spare during the art show to set up/take down the booth, assist the student volunteers, or help with the silent auction, please email members@glasstronomystudios.ca and indicate a preferred time (between 9 am and 3 pm). If you can pin up a poster at your apartment/condo, local library, place of worship, recreational/community centre, workplace, or other public space, email us and/or pick one up in Studio (available May 30, 2019). Alternatively, please send a shout out via your social network about coming to the show. A blurb will be posted to our Members' Community page with text for you to use if you choose. Feel free to link to our Facebook page to share the story of the event with your friends and colleagues.

Members — You must be a member in good standing when you register. Please complete the Member maker registration form and submit it via email or in person by Tuesday, June 11, 2019. This is a great opportunity to test the sale waters in a friendly environment.

Criteria

Participants are encouraged to display/sell seasonal work that best showcases their medium and style.

Display

Vendors can show their work either in Studio or outside in our extensive parking lot. Parking spaces at the front of the Studio and at the back will be blocked off for vendor display use. If you have your own awning/tent, you will benefit from weekend pedestrian street traffic. If you are using the outdoor space, you must have your own payment system, table, and awning/tent.

Inside the Studio, participants are limited to one hanging item; and unless otherwise specified, remaining pieces will be displayed on a two-foot wide table surface. If you choose to sell your work through the Studio credit card payment system there will be a 10% surcharge to cover Studio costs. Please provide the Studio with a sell sheet hard copy to ensure your inventory is properly tracked and that your pieces are priced and labelled.

Participants will be provided with signage containing their name and name of their display (if applicable).

Due to space constraints, participation is based on first come, first served availability.

Set up / take down

In Studio displays can be set up on Friday, June 14, 2019, from 1 to 5 pm, and should be taken down after 3 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2019. Exterior displays can be set up at 9:30 am on Saturday, June 15, 2019.
