Mentee profile | Millean Kung

We welcome back long-time member, Millean Kung, as our 2024 SBAM II mentee. You will be seeing more of Millean as she participates in our internship activities and other self-propelled initiatives in Studio.

Here’s a glimpse of what Millean is all about:

Born and raised in Toronto, Millean discovered Pottery and Glass Art over 10 years ago. She is currently a member of the Potter’s Studio in North York. Since retiring from education, Millean has devoted her time to her Arts. She is the sole proprietor of her business, “1 in a Millean”, and participates in several arts and crafts shows in Ontario.

Millean is a member and a volunteer at the Toronto Botanical Garden. To keep her schedule filled, she sits on the Board of Directors for the Potter’s Studio and for the North York Arts. As well, she is the program manager with the North Toronto Group of Artists. She enjoys, knitting, cooking, and baking.

As part of SBAM II, Millean wishes to enhance her own business acumen by learning more about marketing and social media.

Upcoming Glasstronomy Studios' workshop

Workshop | B235 | Fusing fun: All things tealights (October 27, 2024)

Warm up your décor with a trio of fused glass tealight holders. Spend the morning creating three unique tealight holders in three different styles and techniques: lacy, mosaic, and “person”-alized. Participants will learn about Studio safety and best practices, glass compatibility and volume control, as well as cutting and shaping glass.

All project materials, firings, and tool usage included.

When: Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm
Fee: $195 + HST (includes all project materials, firings, and tool usage)

Workshop | B227 | Beginner glass fusing: Funky wall clock (April 28, 2024)

Welcome to the world of glass fusing in our fully equipped Studio. With professional instruction, participants will learn about glass compatibility, and glass cutting and shaping while producing a one-of-kind mosaic inspired funky wall clock.

All materials and project firing included.

When: Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm (rescheduled from published date of Saturday, April 27, 2024)

Create your own 6" x 6" fused glass plate

Interested in learning about Fused Glass? You pick your colours and create your own design in this beginner fused glass workshop. Millean will guide you through the process.

When: Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm
Fee: $120 (includes all project materials and firings, and instructions)

Members’ only workshop: M2024-1 | Beginner pottery: Wheel mould making

You may have done clay hand building at Glasstronomy Studios, but are you ready to take mould making to the next level? Pottery instructor, Millean Kung, will guide participants through the best practices of wheel throwing. Using a potter’s wheel, you will create two to three bowls to use as moulds for slumping your own glass creations.

MCS Clay, tools, other materials, and instruction are included.

Notes: Wear old clothes and bring an apron or towel for the session – it will be a messy encounter!

For safety: Please tie back hair and leave jewellery at home.

When: Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 2 to 5 pm
Where: The Potter’s Studio, 1550 Birchmount Rd., Unit 116, Scarborough, ON (Entrance off the west side of Birchmount Rd., 1-½ blocks south of Ellesmere Rd.)
Fee payable to Glasstronomy Studios: $100 + HST (includes all materials, project firing, and tool usage)
