Welcome to Glasstronomy Studios’ adult art glass learning program. This calendar showcases the courses and workshops offered from April to June 2023. Nurture your glass skills and let them grow this spring. Seasonal favourites return and new projects highlight some whimsy and ornamentation for inside and outside your special space. Registration is now open.

How to register

To register, we currently accept payment in person (cash, Debit, MasterCard and Visa), by email (e-transfer), or by phone (MasterCard and Visa). Please note that HST will be added to the listed fee at time of payment.

Cancellation policy: A Studio credit will be issued for cancellations up to 48 hours before start date. We regret that Studio credits will not be issued under the 48-hour threshold.

Studio credits can be applied to a future purchase of a workshop or course.

Courses

  • Course | I361 | Intermediate stained glass: Patio stone (April 20, 22, and 27, 2023)

    Back by popular demand! In time for the upcoming garden season, celebrate the coming of summer at the Studio by making a 16-inch hexagonal stained glass patio stone. These bold patterns are a beautiful way to add colour and expression to your garden path or flowerbed. They can also become a patio table when added to a wrought iron table stand (stands not included). Participants will learn how to prepare a pattern and plastic mold for glass and concrete. Once complete, participants will return to pour the concrete. There are several new patterns to choose from.

    Tool and mold use, scrap glass, patterns, mastic, and concrete are included.

    When: Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 7 to 10 pm, Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm, and Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $275 + HST (includes tool and mold use, scrap glass, patterns, mastic, and concrete) + stained glass (optional)





  • Course | B209 | Beginner/Intermediate stained glass: Traditional lead came technique (May 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2023)

    Welcome to traditional stained glass! Learn how to create a stained glass panel in the traditional lead came technique. Whether you are an absolute beginner or adding to your knowledge of copper foil construction, this four-week course will cover how to safely break and shape sheet glass, and lead and glaze an 8-inch by 10-inch stained glass panel.

    All materials and tool use included.

    When: Thursdays, May 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2023, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $275 + HST (includes all materials and tool usage)



  • Course | Members’ only: M2023-6 | Fused and foiled floral wall sconce (June 1, 8, 15, and 17, 2023)

    Bring the wow factor to your decor! Use those big, beautiful pieces of stained glass you have stashed away for this focal fused and foiled glass and metal light fixture. This course will highlight fused/stained sheet glass, copper overlay holders, and hands on electrical instruction. Members will create three floral-inspired lamps that will be wired and applied to a metal armature for lighting. The fixture is approximately 2-feet x 3-feet in size and is suitable for interior and sheltered exterior spaces.

    Copper, solder, chemicals, wiring, and metal armature included.
    Approximately 4 sq. ft. of stained or fused sheet glass is required.

    When: Thursdays, June 1, 8, and 15, 2023, from 7 to 10 pm, and Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 10 am to 12 pm
    Fee: $547 + HST (includes copper, solder, chemicals, wiring, and metal armature) + 4 sq. ft of stained or fused sheet glass

  • Workshop | G217 | Open Studio: Finish up, buttercup! (April 15, 2023)

    We thank you all for your support and patience and are opening the season with a free for all! Have you previously taken a workshop or course at Glasstronomy Studios and simply ran out of time before you could complete the project? With your instructor’s guidance, and the appropriate tools and materials, you can finally complete your project. Commit, complete, and enjoy!

  • Workshop | G186S | Fusing fun: Cast vessel (May 6, 2023)

    Casting in colour, wow! Immerse yourself in glass compatibility, volume control and spend the morning learning about loose fibre damming and multi-layer cathedral tinting while creating a collage that will be cold worked and slumped into a stunning 8 to 10-inch vessel.

    All materials and project firings included.

    When: Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 10 am to 12 pm

  • Workshop | G168S | Fusing fun: Funky wall clock (May 6, 2023)

    Dress up your space with a fun and colourful fused glass mosaic. Using 96 COE compatible glass, participants will learn how to mimic the traditional effect of mosaic without the mess and with the added fun of pings and strings. Participants will create an 8-inch diameter wall clock. Once fired, pieces will be drilled and mounted with a clock mechanism ready to hang.

    All materials and project firing included.

  • Workshop | Members’ only: M2023-5 | Fused glass and metal wind spinner (May 13, 2023)

    Watch the colours spin and shine in the sun with this wind-powered wind spinner. Members will learn how to tack fire and slump in one firing, create molds using found kiln furniture, as well drill and wire fused glass, to create a 6-foot tall, 2-foot circumference fused glass and metal wind spinner.

    Frit, scrap glass, fibre, wire, adhesives, paint, and metal armature included.
    Glass package optional.

    When: Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $379 + HST (includes frit, scrap glass, fibre, wire, adhesives, paint, and metal armature) + Glass package (optional)

  • Workshop | G281 | Glass fusing: Painted and powdered school of fish (May 27, 2023)

    Fluid and fanciful, this three-dimensional sculpture is sure to wow the angler in the family. In time for Father’s Day, participants will create as many fused and slumped fish as they desire using 96 COE sheet glass and accessories. Adding Glassline paint and 1/8-inch fibre paper for effect, once fired, the fish will be ready to add to your wood base.

    One square foot of 96 COE clear and white sheet glass, coloured 96 COE glass powder, frit and stringers, Glassline paint, adhesives, urethane, kiln fibre, and metal rods included. Bring a piece of driftwood or other wooden option as your base (if foraging isn’t for you, check out your local aquarium or woodworking supplier).

    When: Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm, and one complimentary Open studio session for assembly
    Fee: $175 + HST (includes one square foot of 96 COE clear and white sheet glass, coloured 96 COE glass powder, frit and stringers, Glassline paint, adhesives, urethane, kiln fibre, and metal rods) + $15 firing fee per fish (no further discounts) + additional glass (optional) + wood base


  • Workshop | G272S | Fusing fun: Combed critters (June 3 and 10, 2023)

    Hot glass, shiny glass, creepy crawly glass! What is hot glass and how can you turn it into unique swirls and curls? Find out during two mornings of “glass wow” while creating four fanciful hot and fused glass critters. On the first morning, participants will experience glass casting, fibre mold making and glass combing in the mini kilns. Day two, return to cold work and embellish your wee beasties with dichroic “bling” wings. Optional: Once fired, add an earth magnet or key chain and your new “pets” are ready to play!

    All materials and project firings included. Findings not included.

  • Workshop | G273S | Stained glass fun: Butterfly plant stix (June 3 and 10, 2023)

    Embellish your planters, summer bouquets or gardenscapes with shiny splashes of colour in flight. Using stained glass and metal, participants will learn how to cut and shape glass, apply hobby came and wire and mount it all on a rod to be plated and displayed. Participants will make up to three stix.

    All glass and materials included. $25/stix plating fee payable to instructor at the end of the workshop.

    When: Saturdays, June 3 and 10, 2023, from 1 to 4 pm
    Fee: $175 + HST (includes all glass and materials) + electroplating fee ($25/butterfly)
