Fall 2021 | Part 2: ‘Tis the season

Welcome to Glasstronomy Studios’ adult art glass learning program. This calendar showcases the courses and workshops offered during November and December 2021. There is something for all levels of experience with a focus on fun projects for the holiday season and skills development for beginners.

How to register

To register, we currently accept payment in person (cash, Debit, MasterCard and Visa), by email (etransfer), or by phone (MasterCard and Visa). Please note that HST will be added to the listed fee at time of payment.

Cancellation policy: A Studio credit will be issued for cancellations up to 48 hours before start date. We regret that Studio credits will not be issued under the 48-hour threshold.

Studio credits can be applied to a future purchase of a workshop or course.

COVID-19 health measures: Our team is fully-immunized against COVID-19 and we welcome individuals who have had two doses of any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada. At time of publication, all standard COVID-19 safety protocols remain in place and in practice.

Please follow Public Health Ontario’s guidance: 1. Stay home if unwell; 2. Sanitize hands on entering Studio vestibule; 3. Wear face mask during time in Studio; 4. Maintain two-metre physical distancing; 5. Cough or sneeze into elbow.

Courses

  • Course | B209 | Beginner stained glass: Panel (November 4, 11, and 18, 2021)

    Welcome to stained glass! Bright and engaging, stained glass is a wonderful medium to inspire creativity and relaxation. This three-week course includes hands on instruction in traditional lead came stained glass in our spacious and fully-equipped studio. Participants will learn how to safely handle, cut and break sheet glass, and lead and glaze an 8-inch x 10-inch stained glass panel.

    All project materials included.

    When: Thursdays, November 4, 11, and 18, 2021, from 10 am to 12 pm
    Fee: $175 + HST (includes all project materials)
    Capacity: Limited to eight participants

  • Course | B229 | Beginner stained and fused glass: Fused and foiled bevel box (November 25, December 2 and 9, 2021)

    In time for holiday gift giving, this 4-inch x 6-inch bevel-sided box showcases kiln-fired art glass and a hinged lid. Packed with technique, participants will learn about glass compatibility and mini-kiln usage as well as glass cutting and shaping, box construction, and tube hinging.

    All project materials and project firing included.

    When: Thursdays, November 25, December 2 and 9, 2021, from 10 am to 12 pm
    Fee: $175 + HST (includes all materials and project firing)

  • Course | G178 | Beginner/intermediate fused and foiled round panel (cross-disciplined) (January 20, 27, February 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2022)

    The beauty of light shining through glass has inspired us through the ages. Add the layered opportunity of glass fusing and we can easily add a unique touch to a traditional favourite. During this multi-disciplinary six-week course, participants will learn the best practices of glass cutting, shaping, foiling and soldering while creating a 14-inch diameter round window panel. Basic fusing principles of glass compatibility and layering using 96 COE glass and accessories will also be covered. Glass cutting experience required and beginner fusers are welcome.

    Some glass, foil, solder, pattern, frame, and glass firings included.

    When: Thursdays, January 20, 27, February 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2022, from 10 am to 12:30 pm
    Fee: $295 + HST + sheet glass (some glass, foil, solder, pattern *, frame, and project firings included)
    Capacity: Limited to eight participants

    * Three patterns of varying difficulty are available.




Workshops

  • Workshop | G197 | Holiday special: Fused mosaic hanukiah (November 4 and 11, 2021)

    Celebrate Hanukkah this year, or gift a friend with a one-of-a-kind fused glass mosaic nine-candle menorah. Using brightly coloured glass and a black glass powder grout, participants will create a 12-inch diameter half circle and a slumped glass base. Candle cups will be applied after firing.

    All project materials and firings included.

    When: Thursdays, November 4 and 11, 2021, from 7 to 10 pm

  • Workshop | I428 | Fusing fun: Snow globe (November 6 and 13, 2021)

    Let it snow! A magical scene sparkling with snowy light inside its half dome of glass makes this year’s snow globe a special addition to your fused glass gallery. With freeze and fire gingerbread and snowflakes, a ping and vitrigraph decorated house, snowmen and more, this twelve-inch round festive scene will light up your space with a cozy glow.

    All project materials, firings, and lights included. Stand is optional.

    When: Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 10 am to 4 pm AND Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 10 am to 12 pm
    Fee: $275 + HST + Stand (optional)

  • Workshop | I429 | Fusing fun: Fused angel candle screen (November 13, 2021)

    Sweet and simple, this 96 COE cut glass candle screen will cast a heavenly light on your holiday evenings with a trio of angels. Participants will learn about metallic coatings: dichroic, iridescent, and luminescent, including their differences and firing techniques, while creating a 10-inch x 8-inch fused and slumped piece.

    All project materials and firings included.
    Beginner fusers welcome, glass cutting experience required.

    When: Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 1 to 4 pm
    Fee: $145 + HST (includes all project materials and firings)

  • Workshop | A427 | Holiday showstopper: Out of the box, a fused and foiled toy caper (November 18, 25, and December 2 and 9, 2021)

    This year’s holiday showstopper is fun, festive, and fabulous! Whether for the mantel or table this decorative piece is inspired by toys from Santa’s workshop. Participants will learn how to make their own sheet glass, build with three-dimensional copper foil construction, make three-dimensional kiln-fired glass, and so much more!

    Patterns, copper foil and solder, kiln and glass accessories, and project firings, included.
    Glass kit is optional.

    When: Thursdays, November 18, 25, and December 2 and 9, 2021, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $350 + HST + Glass kit (optional) (includes patterns, copper foil and solder, glass and kiln accessories, and project firings)

  • Workshop | I368 | Stained glass technique: Music box (November 20, 2021)

    Are there new babies in your circle? Set to music, these three-dimensional stained glass creations with their fused glass embellishments make beautiful gifts to mark this year’s holiday season. Participants will learn three-dimensional stained glass construction, glass drilling, and fused glass applique while creating one 4-inch x 4-inch x 8-inch working music turntable. There are several patterns and musical scores to choose from.

  • Workshop | I430 | Fusing fun: The Nutcracker (November 27, 2021)

    The Nutcracker ballet has become an annual holiday tradition. While everyone has their favourite character, we’ve translated the title hero into glass. A bright and bold addition to your holiday planter, this staked fellow made of 96 COE glass and glass accessories is sure to make your arrangement unique and extra festive.

    All project materials and firing included.
    Beginner fusers welcome, glass cutting experience required.
    Ornaments and tree/stand are not included.

    When: Saturday, November 27, 2021, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $195 + HST (includes all project materials and firing)

  • Workshop | G199 | Fusing fun: Powder migration, holiday dish set (December 4 and 16, 2021)

    In time for holiday gift giving or hosting! Spend the morning exploring this fascinating technique that uses 96 COE glass powder and Durafibre to manipulate the effects of a lightweight particle migrating under heat to create multi-ringed patterns in glass. Each participant will produce a set of three dishes: two 4-inch square and one 4-inch x 10-inch rectangle. Participants will return to cold work and assemble their designs onto their desired base glass. The Morton System will also be covered.

    When: Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 10 am to 12 pm AND Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $195 + HST + base glass (includes glass powder, fibre, clear cap, and project firings)

  • Workshop | G138 | Holiday special! Fusing fun: Fused glass ornaments (December 4, 2021) THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL

    This is a workshop for any age and experience. Using bright 96 COE glass opals and accessories, participants will create a collection of holiday-themed ornaments in time to decorate for the festive season. Come and celebrate the coming of the holidays at the Studio. Make as many ornaments as you can!

    All project materials and firings included.

    When: Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 1 to 4 pm
    Fee: $50 + HST/per person (includes all project materials and firings)
    Holiday special: $150/family of four
    Capacity: Limited to 12 participants THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL

  • Workshop | I431 | Fusing fun: All in the family, fused gingerbread chain (December 11, 2021)

    Yummy, sweet looking, and calorie-free! Whether capturing your own family or friends in faux gingerbread, participants will use 96 COE glass and accessories to create a fun and decorative standalone piece approximately 8-inch x 14-inch.

    All project materials and firings included.
