Zoom remote learning

Welcome to Glasstronomy Studios’ remote learning program. This calendar outlines Zoom workshops and courses running during the month of June 2020. Registration opens Tuesday, May 26, 2020.


  • I413ZL | Intermediate stained glass and fusing: Hummingbird and hibiscus garden wall sculpture (June 4, 11, 18, 25, 2020)

    Fee: $425 + HST

    Celebrate your outdoor space this spring with a glass and metal wall sculpture. During this four-week remote course, participants will learn how to create, fire, and prepare their own molds using clay, Durafiber, and hardener for slumping and casting. Using 96 COE glass, participants will cut, shape and fire three sculptural flowers, nine cast leaves, and one three-dimensional hummingbird. Once completed, all the glass components will be mounted on a 13-inch x 18-inch metal armature. Participants are welcome to contact the instructor for tech support via text, phone or FaceTime.

    What’s included:

    • Four live video lessons
    • Patterns and instruction sheets
    • One portion of white clay
    • 1 sq. ft. of 1/8-inch Durafiber
    • 3/4 sq. ft. of 1/2-inch Durafiber
    • 17 g high fire wire (leaves)
    • One medium jump ring (hummingbird)
    • 7/32-inch black backed copper foil and solder
    • One portion of mold hardener
    • One portion of Bullseye kiln wash
    • One painted metal armature
    • Firing schedules and tech support
    • Video recording of each module (after each lesson)

    Optional glass package:

    • 1-1/2 sq. ft. of 96 COE cherry red cathedral fusing glass
    • 1 sq. ft. of 96 COE medium green cathedral fusing glass
    • 1 sq. ft. of 96 COE luminescent clear fusing glass

    • Kiln firings
    • Glastac
    • 96 COE fusing glass as listed in Optional glass package
    • Scrap 96 COE glass for the hummingbird and flower décor
    • Chemicals: Flux, Neutra, patina, polish for the hummingbird assembly (wings to body)
    • Rubber cement or marker for pattern transfer
    • Tools: glass cutter, grozing pliers, grinder, kiln and accessories, pen knife/X-ACTO knife, and soldering iron
       

  • G198ZL | Stained glass technique: Copper overlay silhouettes (June 4, 2020)

    Have you been spending your isolation time looking in to the coloured swirls of your art glass, seeing the perfect form or scene? Join this Zoom demonstration and learn how to create the story with copper and solder and apply it to the surface of your glass inspiration. Using the copper sheet foil, metal ring and solder included, participants will be able to create a framed 10-inch round window hanging after the demonstration. Participants are welcome to contact the instructor for tech support via text, phone or FaceTime.

    What’s included:

    • One video lesson and tech support
    • One 12-inch square of copper sheet foil
    • 1/2-inch copper foil for metal ring
    • 10-inch metal ring
    • 1/2 lb. 60/40 solder
    • 12-inch of box chain for hanging

  • I305ZL | Stained glass technique: Decorative soldering (June 18, 25, 2020)

    Zoom video: Thursdays, June 18, 25, 2020, from 8:30 to 9:15 pm

    Fee: $195 + HST

    Register for both G198ZL and I305ZL: $272 + HST (combo)

    Do you struggle with your soldering? Does your solder “spit, pit, or prick”? Do you wonder what role flux plays or why there are different solder ratios? Now is the time to find out why and how to achieve the perfect look. This video lesson will also demonstrate how to pearl, bridge and pull your solder into several decorative styles that will enhance your copper foil projects. Participants will be able to create a 4-inch bevel square using all the techniques demonstrated.

    Each participant is entitled to book an additional private 30-minute Zoom session for technical assistance. You can schedule your session any time before the end of July 2020.

    • One 3-inch square bevel
