Welcome to Glasstronomy Studios’ adult art glass workshop program. This season we are offering Zoom or in Studio sessions from July 14 to 16, 2020. Some of these sessions span more than one day.

  • G243ZL | Zoom | Tutorial: Gemini Taurus 3 Ring Saw (July 14, 2020)

    Do you have a Gemini Taurus 3 Ring Saw at home and need the confidence to break it out of the box? Or perhaps you’re stuck with a maintenance or part issue and don’t know where to begin? Join this 30-minute Zoom tutorial and get motivated to create some intricate designs while having your questions answered.

    Quick and easy, but oh so fun, these glass stringer techniques are sure to brighten your morning. Enjoy a cup of coffee while taking notes on how to create and fire tapestry-inspired patterns using this popular fusing staple. Look forward to incorporating these playful techniques into your own glass projects.

    Are you getting error codes after a kiln firing? Do your relays need replacing? Brick debris, coil underpinning and other kiln maintenance will also be covered. Email your kiln maintenance questions to Melanie Kidd before Tuesday, July 14, 2020, and have your questions answered during this informative tutorial.


  • G242 | Fusing fun: Miniature garden centrepiece (July 14 to 16, 2020) | FULL

    Date: Tuesday, July 14, to Thursday, July 16, 2020, from 1 pm to 4 pm
    Fee: $295 + HST

    Welcome back to the Studio for our first back to glass experience under our new guidelines. Participants will refresh their glass fusing practice with this sculptural, multi-technique, cheerful table centrepiece. Using 96 COE glass and accessories, participants will create freeze and fire cameos, naturally inspired sculpted flowers, and sweet garden critters all above a waving field of glass grass. Fibre mould making and vitrigraph stringer pulling will also be covered. Add a candle and enjoy the play of light day and night!

    Beginner fusers are welcome. Glass cutting experience required.

    Dimensions: The finished project is approximately 10-inch x 10-inch x 10-inch.

    What is included? All project materials, armature, and firings are included.

  • I414ZL | Zoom | Firing stained glass: Wheel of glass fortune (July 14 to 16, 2020)

    Date: Tuesday, July 14, to Thursday, July 16, 2020, from 7 pm to 8 pm
    Fee: $295 + HST
    Optional: Badger airbrush kit | $89 + HST
    Optional: Project firings | $60 + HST

    Did you know you can fire stained glass in your kiln? During this three-session Zoom workshop, participants will learn what fusing techniques can be applied to stained glass in the kiln and how to fire it without breakage or devitrification. All that stained glass you have stashed away since you’ve fallen in love with glass fusing can come back out and shine! Here’s the best part: you can also upcycle your old bicycle! Those old wheels are a great way to showcase glass and create the garden show-stopper of our summer program. Make the old new again with glow-in-the-dark powder, glass paint, and bas relief. Select your choice of a wall mount or garden stake armature to spin your summer in colour without moving you’re your garden paradise.

    Beginner fusers are welcome. Glass cutting and soldering experience required. For technical support, participants may contact the instructor via text, phone or FaceTime.

    Dimensions: The finished wheel is approximately 20-inch in diameter. The garden stake armature is 3-foot tall.

    What is included? The kit includes ¼-inch and ½-inch copper foil, 1 lb. solder, armature (wall mount or garden stake), Durafiber, spray over-glaze, glow-in-the-dark pigment, and four bottles of Glassline paint (choose from black, blue, green, orange, purple, red, white, yellow, and email your colour selection before July 10, 2020). Kit is available for pick up on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

    What is not included? Extra 1 to 2 lbs. solder, 6 sq. ft. stained glass, and bicycle wheel are not included (if you need a wheel, email Melanie Kidd).
